Ryan Adams lost details nieuw album

Ryan Adams blijft een erg productief baasje en lekte al wat details over de opvolger van '1989'.

Voor het nieuwe, door rockveteraan Don Was ("Gandalf", zegt Adams) opgenomen album schreef hij meer dan tachtig songs alvorens die tot een wat meer beheersbare elf terug te brengen.

Veel van de nieuwe muziek, die hij schreef, werd geïnspireerd door in Los Angeles rond te lopen met eightiesmuziek in de oren. "Als ik ga lopen, neem ik een oude Ipod Nano mee. Die bevat het integrale oeuvre van AC/DC, maar ook zowat het beste uit de eighties: Springsteen, Bruce Hornsby, enz. Ik luisterde naar AC/DC's 'Fly On The Wall' en wist meteen wat me te doen stond voor het nieuwe album. Voor het gitaarwerk luisterde ik onder meer naar Bachman Turner Overdrive en ELO. "

Over de inhoud wilde Adams dit nog kwijt: "I’m taking all the cool, big questions I’m asking on this record, then flipping it over, and then flipping it back to Side-A and you still have more questions… I’m a relatively convoluted soul creatively. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. I think the challenge for me — the Everest peak, for me — is to tell this story in 11 songs, to tell this part of my life in 11 songs. How do I make a real distinct record where anybody listens to it and says, “That’s the truth from beginning to end.” So it’s like exercise. It sucks in the beginning. But then you get into it."

Het nieuwe, voorlopig nog titelloze album komt begin November - wellicht op Pax Am - uit.
