Eugénie - Silence

Deze rijzende Franse ster doorbreekt de stilte.

In 2017 zag het er allemaal zo goed uit voor Eugénie: ze tekende voor Universal nadat ze met Puis Dance de aandacht had getrokken en met Vents Contraires een hit scoorde. Dankzij de samenwerking met Elephanz haalde ze zelfs een gouden plaat binnen.

Maar toen werd het stil. U weet waarom. Dit jaar stak ze opnieuw het wipneusje aan het venster met Blue en Princess. En nu is er Silence, een voorloper van de volgend jaar te verschijnen ep. Op de plaat zijn amper instrumenten te horen. Dit laat toe dat de introspectieve tekst over de relatie met haar moeder goed binnenkomt.

Eugénie: "This song was written almost five years ago. It’s an intimate subject, and I think that the reason I wrote it in English is because I didn’t want the concerned person wouldn’t know, as she only speaks French. It’s weird to want to talk to someone and at the same time don’t want this person to hear or understand you, it’s like sending a subliminal message. Silence is the pain of the little girl deep inside me."

"A message to my mom that I love with all my heart. I may not assume this conflict yet, but I assume the emotion and the feeling of despair that I felt when I lay down those words on paper. This song has almost no instrumental cause I wanted to feel as close as possible to the lyrics and the silence, but not so far from a certain musicality or poetisation. The video was shot in her painting studio. Painting is her way to express, music is mine. This video was a way to connect both of our universes, a way to talk to her in a way that can seem to be indirect but actually is more intimate.”
