#Nieuwjaarsdeuntjes - Tori Amos - Our New Year (2009)

Een nieuw jaar en dus is het de hoogste tijd voor nieuwjaarsgericht auditief gerief.

Heel mooie pianoballade waar La Amos (voluit Myra Ellen Amos, °1963 en dochter van een predikant en een halfbloed Cherokee moeder) een patent op heeft.

Van elfde plaat 'Midwinter Graces' uit 2009, waarop ze, na wat meer muzikale zijwegen bewandeld te hebben, terugkeert naar de klassieke, barok gestripte pianostijl, geflankeerd met veel strijkers. De Bösendorferpiano is de kern van het verhaal en dat staat haar uiteindelijk het best, zoals ook blijkt op deze nieuwjaarssong, die eigenlijk gaat over het schielijk overlijden van haar broer in een auto-ongeluk in 2005.

Ze rekent er af met de tragische gevoelens, alhoewel ze er niet graag over praat: "I think at this time of year you think of people that might not be in your life anymore or who’ve left the planet. I get really nostalgic at Christmas, and memories of other times with other people who you might not have heard from in a long time can cross your mind." Op de vraag of ze iemand specifiek in gedachten had, is het antwoord kort: "I did. But, we’ll leave it there… People get nostalgic and you have to acknowledge that there are people that aren’t with you anymore, so there’s a song that does that”.
